Using our Knowledge and Skills to Benefit Society
“If you want to improve performance, you start with people.”
For more than two decades, I have spent my career serving in roles as a leader, veterinarian, and employee within veterinary settings. These experiences have given me the opportunity to face challenges firsthand, make mistakes, and witness the true cost of poor workplace culture.
There is a real epidemic in veterinary medicine right now that isn’t driven by the rapid advancement of technology or rising costs of care. It is found in the hallways when no one is listening, in the mundane task lists, or in the decisions being made by the few instead of the whole group. Our people, our greatest and most important resources, are struggling.

This isn’t theory. This is real data from our field. I’ve seen this data come to life firsthand. Clients will say to me, “Everything is fine,” but then discuss how they have hired the same role six times or lost several long-standing clients. This is where I come in. I’m ready to help organizations pause, reflect, and realize what they may not have been quite ready to face or fully understand.

Coaching Examples in Action
A veterinary organization’s strengths lie in its people , not task lists, bottom lines, or other qualitative measures. Every role in a veterinary workplace has value that contributes to the overall care and service provided to clients..
Empathy
I coach leaders to consciously lead their teams, not just manage them.
We hold open discussions and decision-making roundtables with the entire team. Leaders must commit to hearing and valuing input from all roles.
The overall culture and well-being of our teams isn’t a soft skill; it’s a business driver.
Awareness
We discuss what it means to be intentionally aware of your teams, not just the tasks assigned to them.
Every role brings a unique purpose, energy, and value to daily operations. Recognizing that is essential to building an empowering and positive workplace culture.
When you’ve hired for the same role six times or lost a long-time client, it’s time to ask: What is the true cost of culture? It’s not just wages. It’s time, trust, and loyalty lost.
Accountability
When we commit to psychological safety, we commit to supporting the people behind the roles, lives, challenges, and values beyond the job.
When we know and value each role that keeps an organization running smoothly, teams thrive, animal care improves, and clients walk away feeling part of something bigger.
The true cost of culture extends beyond what’s visible. If left unaddressed, the ripple effects can be long-lasting, quietly eroding organizational outcomes.
“This idea that roles are loaded with tasks instead of trust, purpose, and potential loses sight of the person behind the role.”
Every role brings an interconnected purpose to the overall client experience. I’ve seen things animals do only once, and if you’re not standing there, you’ll miss it. That’s why every person’s perspective matters, from the CSR to the tech to the doctor. When my client service rep says, “Hey, I don’t know if it’s a big deal, but that dog’s teeth were chattering,” that’s data. That’s information. I need that insight, no matter who it comes from. When we invest in these roles and our overall culture, our people feel seen and heard. This translates directly to the client experience.
